Dusty
Dusty Springfield OBE is widely considered to be one of the best soul singers that ever lived. From her international hit ‘I Only Want To Be With You’ in 1963, through ‘What Have I Done To Deserve This?’ with the Pet Shop Boys, to A Very Fine Love, the last album before her death in 1999, her career was as varied as it was important.
She was credited as the person responsible for introducing Motown music to Britain and her 1968 album Dusty In Memphis revolutionized methods of production and delivery for white British singers. At the height of her fame in 1970 she fled to Los Angeles, tired with the constant invastion of her private life by the tabloids. It wasn’t until the late ‘80s that she re-emerged with a spectacular comeback. First published in 1989, and updated ten years later, this classic biography was instrumental iin the rediscovery and reappraisal of one of our greatest pop talents.
